We often determine our worth from perceptions taken on from others. Maybe it is a label we’ve had since childhood that we can’t do something because we weren’t as smart as someone else. Maybe we were shy and cute and “powerful people aren’t cute,” or a man was raised to act tough in order to be manly. All of those are misconceptions and can hinder us in relationships.
If you often feel inadequate or afraid to try for a goal or promotion, don’t cut yourself short by comparing your credentials to others instead of nourishing your own abilities. Someone’s journalism degree might scare you from trying for a promotion, but maybe you have excellent people skills that surpass what that person has to offer. Remember, your present talent might not be enough to get you to the finish line but it can get you to the next step, and the next.
