A few weeks ago, I was asked a question that really blew my mind! The question was “why do I get out of bed every day?” When I heard my own internal answer, I was blown away by what I heard myself thinking. My short answer was:
“Because I can’t help it. I have an unwavering knowing that life is meant to be more.”
Whether you’re an employee, an entrepreneur, a manager or even simply use email in your personal life, email is one of the BIGGEST time sucks ever invented.
Imagine that each person has a cup. How they feel—their emotional state, health, wellbeing, fulfillment, their energy level—is dependent on how full their cup is. Every person as the ability to pour from their own cup into someone else’ by giving of themselves in one way or another. There are some people who are cup-fillers, helpers, givers who go around filling others’ cups. There are also people who are like beggars on the street holding out empty cups asking or demanding them to be filled.

You know when you’re in an airplane and the steward does the demonstration and tells you “in the case of an emergency and a drop in cabin pressure, put your own oxygen mast on first before assisting other passengers.” It’s cliché but most people miss the point. Have you ever stopped to consider WHY? Because if you don’t put the oxygen mask on yourself first, and you lose consciousness, you are unable to help anyone else.
So, what do you want? If you’re like most people, this is surprisingly difficult to answer. Most people are so inundated with messages from their parents, peers, and society of what they “should” want that their true desires are drowned out.
Many gurus, coaches, and personal development junkies espouse the intention to “discover your passion” and presumably “follow your passion” once you’ve found it.
When I decided to Florida from New Hampshire when I was 23, everyone I told responded with pessimism and discouragement. “You’ll be back.” “It’s too hot down there, you’re going to roast.” “There are old people everywhere.” “The water at the beach gets so warm it’s not even refreshing.” “I’ve heard the traffic is TERRIBLE.” Everyone had negative things to say.
I apologize in advance if this offends you. Nevermind, I hope it pisses you off and makes you want to stop squandering your potential. You deserve more than where you are right now.
