Finding Purpose in Death
We all have loved ones that come into our lives to help us grow, and sometimes when they leave us the lessons become even more powerful. Many people find it hard to look through the pain of loss to reveal the blessings that often lie within the curse. Don’t get me wrong, I still miss my brother and all the experiences that I would have wanted to share with him, even if I see the greater purpose that he has inspired in my life through his death. As an expression of gratitude, I share this letter to my beloved brother, Daniel.
The Ghost Ship of Irrevocable Choices
Even small decisions dramatically alter our lives, and a decision to do one thing always takes away an opportunity to do something else. Deciding to spend three hours a day on social media or watching TV or paying video games (like most Americans) means giving up the time to go back to school, train for a marathon, write a book, or spend quality time with loved ones. But, no matter how gross the cumulative loss over time, such small daily choices easily can be changed. Each day offers an opportunity to make a new decision; however, not all decisions are created equal.
Give Your Pain a Purpose
We all have pain. It’s inevitable. It’s part of life. But, the first thing I want to get clear is that there’s a difference between pain and suffering. Pain happens when your life circumstances do not match up with your view of the way the world should be. Suffering is when you feel powerless over it. You are never powerless over it. You can always change your point of view.
Mental Digestion: Trust Your Gut
When experiencing a digestion problem, we often think of food as the culprit. While the quality of our food definitely is a factor in this equation, we usually overlook the true villain—STRESS.
Go to a doctor for digestive symptoms, and it’s likely you will come home with a prescription (or three) to reduce acid reflux, stimulate the digestive track, and probably even “treat” anxiety or depression.
Stepping Away from the (Stress) Cliff
Imagine you are walking down the sidewalk and you trip. There would be a mild anxiety reaction and you’d recover quickly.
Now, imagine you were walking two feet from the edge of a cliff and you tripped. You would be terrified, and your body would go into complete panic.
Now, imagine a time when you were feeling pretty good—things were going well—and someone you love left dishes on the table or you were stuck in traffic. These situations were mild irritants.
Taking Flight: A Transformation Story
When a caterpillar approaches its time of transformation, it begins to eat ravenously, consuming everything in sight. The caterpillar outgrows its own skin many times, until it is too bloated to move. It turns its world on its head as it attaches itself upside-down to a branch and forms a chrysalis. This gentle encasing limits its freedom and protects it during the duration of the metamorphosis.
The Mindset and Strategy for Achieving Goals That Actually Works
Goal setting is so much a key to success that it’s cliché. We know it, but most of us don’t do it.
First, we want you to know that this is NOT just another lousy goal-setting program. This is the exact process we use to exceed our goals year after year and coach thousands of clients to create BREAKTHROUGHS.
Question Your BS: Banish Limiting Beliefs and Excuses
They are habits of thought that we think automatically about aspects of life because we assume they are true. It is important to question your beliefs because the truth is that just because you believe them doesn’t make them true. You probably used to believe something that you don’t believe anymore. That’s good news because if some of what you believe is limiting you, you can change it!
Your Hero’s Journey
If you’ve ever watched a move or read a story, you know that at the center of every story is a hero. This hero isn’t usually a superhero who is endowed with super-human powers. In most cases, the hero is an ordinary person who either has to rise to the occasion when life throws them a catastrophe or who has to face their demons in order to create a better life.
